Student behaviour has changed, perhaps forever: A global shift in education with AI

The landscape of student learning has undergone a profound transformation, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) now deeply embedded in the educational journey of young people worldwide. The #StudentsSpeakonAI report, a comprehensive global survey by edutech company BrightCHAMPS involving 1,425 students across 29 countries, highlights that student behaviour has changed, perhaps forever. This significant shift is largely driven by the increasing integration of AI into daily education.

AI: An integral part of learning

An increasing number of students have seamlessly integrated AI into their educational processes, most notably for homework assistance. Data reveals that 58 per cent of students, globally, have utilised AI for help with their studies in 2025, which includes support for homework, projects, and achieving a better understanding of material taught in school.

This global average is notably surpassed in several regions, with 80 per cent of students in the UAE and 71 per cent in Indonesia using AI for studies, followed by Vietnam and India at 63 per cent each, and the USA at 54 per cent.

Daily engagement and new search habits

The report indicates that almost half of the surveyed students are fairly regular users of AI. More specifically, 33 per cent of students globally are fairly regular users of AI. A significant 10 per cent of students globally report using AI tools daily. This frequent engagement extends to fundamental study habits, with 12 per cent of students globally changing their search behaviour entirely. For these students, AI tools have become the primary method for searching information online, superseding traditional search engines.

ChatGPT dominates student preferences

When it comes to preferred AI tools, ChatGPT emerges as the most popular choice globally, used by 46 per cent of students. This widespread adoption underscores the impact of specific AI platforms on how students access and process information.

Ravi Bhushan, Founder & CEO of BrightCHAMPS, commented on these findings, stating: “The students have spoken! For several years now, all of us have been collectively wondering about the adoption and impact of AI on students.”

He expressed hope in students’ “resilience and desire to upskill and fortify their learning with new-age skills”, aiming for the report to help parents, policymakers, edtechs, institutions, and other stakeholders make informed decisions to prepare “the world’s one billion children become future-ready”.

The evidence is clear: AI is no longer a peripheral tool but a central component of the modern student’s educational life.
